The Play
The success of this musical revue of Sondheim's early work was a turning point in Sondheim's acceptance into popular consciousness, when first staged on Broadway in 1977. First created in 1975 by a cast of Millicent Martin, Julia McKenzie, David Kernan and Ned Sherrin, the piece demonstrates the range and quality of Sondheim's work, featuring numbers from many shows, including Company, A Little Night Music, Evening Primrose, Follies and A Funny Thing Happened on The Way to The Forum.
